Data Last Updated: 11/07/2025
Update Frequency: Annual
Footnotes: The height and weight data for 'Overweight and Severely Overweight (Obesity) Prevalence Among Primary One Children' was obtained annually through School Health Service conducting health screening and height and weight measurements for all Primary One children in MOE primary schools. Overweight Body Mass Index (BMI)-for-age refers to Primary One children whose BMI are at and more than the 90th percentile. Severely Overweight BMI-for-age refers to Primary One children whose BMI are at and more than the 97th percentile. Year 2020 data was based on 3-month data from January to March 2020 instead of the entire year as the COVID-19 situation disrupted the measurement of height and weight in schools. Year 2021 data was based on 4-month data from January to April 2021 instead of the entire year as the COVID-19 situation disrupted the measurement of height and weight in schools. Data are used for SDG 2.2.2 'Prevalence of malnutrition (weight for height >+2 or <-2 standard deviation from the median of the WHO Child Growth Standards) among children under 5 years of age, by type (wasting and overweight)'. Please refer to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Global Metadata (https://unstats.un.org/sdgs/metadata) for more information on SDG 2.2.2.
